I have been training with Tom since October 2004; the results have been fantastic, far surpassing my expectations. My initial goals were to improve core strength, correct strength imbalances and address a ten-year hamstring injury. My core strength and balance have never been better, and I owe my first time ever six-pack abs to Tom! My hamstring is no longer bothering me. Work travel often leaves me with limited time to train, so efficiency and intensity is the key. Last fall I entered a triathlon and a 15 K race following an extended illness; I was happy with my performance and thought about Tom at the finish since I knew it was my training with him that made the difference.
Tom is masterful in constructing workouts; each is different and yet well choreographed. He easily shifts focus and adapts workouts to take into account my needs and how I feel on any particular day, complimenting my triathlon training outside the gym. He keeps workouts fresh and challenging with a large arsenal of exercise ideas. He has the uncanny ability to know just how far to push, squeezing out that extra repetition yet finding that perfect edge between underachieving and over-training. Tom is a great teacher on technique. He refines constantly and makes subtle adjustments in positioning to maximize the safety and effectiveness of exercises; he sees everything.
Most of all, I look so forward to tour workouts, which have become addictive. They just bring you to the next level. For sure, Tom pushes me hard, but he is a great motivator. He leaves me at times thinking Wow! I don’t believe I just did that! Tommy is professional and committed to his clients. Yet I have found him down-to-earth and caring. He strikes a personal connection which makes workouts fun but never interferes with the pace and intensive focus on the workout itself. I find it impressive that Tom has trained for the Marine Corps and worked with professional athletes. At the same time his clients have included people over the age of 80 and individuals with physical disabilities. This shows Tom’s ability to adapt his considerable interpersonal and technical skills to a range of people and ability levels. He is an exceptional trainer.

“Tomlo’s professionalism, energy, consistency and attention to detail set him apart in from the other trainers in their business. Any civilian who gets the opportunity to train with him now, their lucky, because he not going to be around here for long before you’ll be paying big bucks to get him. He’s the type of guy who should be training the navy seals or the Atlanta braves.”

“I started training after injuring my shoulders and wrists playing ice hockey. Tommy developed a comprehensive program to strengthen the weak points of my physique and improve my overall core and leg power. His emphasis on explosiveness and agility helped me gain a step on the competition and start scoring goals at the elite level. While training with Tommy, my 2005-2006 season was injury free and my team made it to the quarter finals of the USA Hockey National Championships – our best finish in five years!”

I’m writing to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of Thomas Tomlo as a trainer. I have worked with Thomas 5 five days a week for several months and can’t say enough good things about him. It’s not an exaggeration to say he has transformed my life thru his dedicated and successful efforts to help me get into a physical condition to live life more fully.
I’m 59 years old and have been a paraplegic for 35 years. I also haven’t engaged in any conditioning program in over 30 years. So when I started with Thomas I was in very sad shape. I also had numerous physical problems such as a painful shoulder as a result of all the transfers out of the wheelchair over the years that put stress on the joint. Suffice to say that Thomas has done more than motivate and guide my efforts. He has served as an incredibly informed therapist, devising the exercises that allow me to recover a full range of motion in my shoulder, arms and upper body. He has a commanding knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the body. Thomas skillfully balanced a training of various muscle groups that has remarkably increased my strength and stamina. His stretching and body massages have been absolutely rejuvenating. His motivational techniques are nothing short of spectacular. He manages to keep me going thru these workouts day after day. He maintains a positive attitude at all times and really keeps the program going.
Thomas has done a truly exceptional job addressing all the special requirements I brought into this challenge of getting an older disabled person into shape. My entire lifestyle has benefited as a result of the increased mobility, strength and stamina. I hope that Thomas gets the acknowledgement he deserves for being the best trainer anyone can have. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with him.

As a D1 athlete, thorough and maximum training is the foundation behind my success. Training with Tommy is part of that success. In many cases the preparation during the off-season is more important than the time spent in season. During the off-season I choose to train with Tommy because he specially constructs a program that challenges me to perform at my best while preparing me for the regular season. He pushes me beyond my limits and towards fulfilling my potential during each workout. Training with a team is often easier then training individually because you have a set of people alongside you to keep the motivation going. When training with Tommy there is no drop off between the motivation found within a big group of people and the motivation provided by him. The best part of training with Tommy is his sense of humor. He truly makes each session enjoyable and not dreadful to look forward too. He provides a healthy and comfortable environment while pushing his clients to past their maximum capacity. He is genuinely interested in his clients, and figures out the best way to make them achieve their goals. I haven chose to train with Tommy not only because I have liked the results, but because he makes the entire process difficult yet enjoyable.

"Moving the warm-up from the main stage on the National Mall to the start line on Constitution Avenue was something new that we wanted to try this year. It proved to be a huge success, due in large part to the energy of Tommy Tomlo and his star client, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Working with Tommy in the weeks leading up to Race Day convinced me that this was the right decision and that he was the right person to go with. He would, without a doubt, be able to warm-up our crowd of 50,000 runners and walkers. The feedback from the Race participants was overwhelmingly positive - they enjoyed their early morning exercises with Tommy and Condi."

I’ve been training with Tommy since early 2003. My previous personal trainer moved and Tommy was available to work with me. How lucky could I get? He’s just terrific! He’s so knowledgeable and personable. We have fun, but I definitely get a workout! I look forward to our workouts as they’re never boring and they’re always effective. Tommy really mixes it up with a variety of exercises and machines, free weights, and other exercise devices. Tommy customizes the exercises to whatever my particular needs are at the time. I had been in reasonably good shape, having finished the Honolulu Marathon in December, 2002. When I started training with Tommy, however, I had a dance-related injury to my shoulder and later developed problems with my hip. Tommy made sure I got a good workout while accommodating my conditions with the appropriate exercises and stretching for recovery. In addition to the exercises we did together, he also advised about exercises and stretching I could do on my own. Thanks to his expertise, my shoulder fully recovered and my hip no longer prevents me from being as active as I want. Before a series of dance performances, Tommy also helped me concentrate on certain areas that would be exposed by a skimpy costume! Tommy continues to tackle any challenge I have for him. The latest is helping me get into the shape I was in prior to major lifestyle changes from a recent engagement/marriage. He always comes through – and I just have to do my part! I can’t say enough good things about Tommy’s expertise. He’s the best!

Two months before my first marathon in February of 2004, I sustained two stress fractures (one in left lower femur and right second metatarsal bone) that precluded me from continuing training and participating in the race. I was very upset but still determined to run. That is when I started training with Tom.
With Tom’s expertise and knowledge not only did I became stronger, but, I overcame my injuries and started running much earlier, and completed my first marathon.
Tom has the experience, the technical knowledge and also the uncanny ability to make me want to work harder. The confidence and conditioning I gained from working with Tom, without a doubt, carried me through my first big race. He possesses, exudes and transmits motivation and drive.
Since then, I have been training regularly with Tom, not only because he helped me achieved my goal, but because I see an expert in his field with a personality that inspires trust and dedication.

I look forward to each workout I have with Tommy because I know the results are effective. Each workout is challenging because we utilize different movements for various parts of the body. The hour we work out seems to fly by so fast because we are always doing something interesting. Tommy is also aware of customizing a workout to fit your needs. He knows what a woman needs and what a man needs. I enjoy learning what exercises benefit which parts of the body, and Tommy keeps me aware of everything. Through constant feedback and encouragement, I feel extremely comfortable with my body, all because of Tommy.

My name is Yvette Nowland and I have trained with Thomas Tomlo since 2006, in Washington, DC. I have been training with personal trainers since I was nineteen years old and playing tennis for the Pennsylvania State University. I can honestly say that Tom is the best!
Tommy has helped me to transform my figure, build muscle, endurance, and live a healthier lifestyle! I look forward to my bi-weekly training appointments with him as we spend time toning and strengthening my muscle group in my arms, legs, and especially my abs. He encourages me to always schedule time to do cardio for my heart health, whether it be running, biking, or spinning.
I have dropped two pant sizes in the last year, and he has been the driving force behind me accomplishing that goal! I am a very determined businesswoman and Tommy always supports me to help me to continue to reach my life goals.

Training with you has been a great experience – challenging and immensely rewarding. Your comprehensive approach to physical fitness was key for me – I felt like you really took the time to understand my fitness goals, address my exercise and eating habits, and then fashion work-outs that effectively targeted my fitness/weight loss goals and brought a lot of variety to my training. As important (to me, anyway) as technical competence, you’re also incredibly motivating to be around and that kind of energy is contagious! I’ve never felt better, stronger, healthier or more fit.

I owe a lot to Tom Tomlo, or “Coach” as I call him. Without Tom I wouldn’t have the discipline to exercise regularly. His sessions always challenge me to do a little more than I think I can. He knows body mechanics and calibrates each session so I go to my max without hurting the next day. Every workout is different to combat boredom. I have never felt better in my 64 years.
